How Severy Got Its Name
Severy started as a town called Gould in 1879. Later, when the Santa Fe Railway built its tracks through the area, the town's name was changed. It was renamed Severy to honor Luther Severy, who worked for the railroad company.

Severy is found along Kansas Highway 99. This road is just south of where it crosses with U.S. Route 400.

Schools in Severy
The public schools in Severy are part of the West Elk USD 282 school district. This district was formed when schools from Moline, Howard, and Severy joined together. West Elk High School is located in Howard. The school's mascot is the Patriots.
Severy used to have its own high school, but it closed when the schools combined. The mascot for Severy High School was the Wildcats.
Famous People From Severy
- Stanley Vestal (born in 1887 near Severy) was a historian and author. He wrote about the American West, including a book called Dodge City, Queen of the Cowtowns.
