Sgùrr Choinnich is a cool mountain in the highlands of Scotland. It is found in the Achnashellach Forest area. This mountain sits between Glen Carron and Loch Monar.
It is mostly covered in steep, grassy slopes. The very top has a narrow ridge that runs from east to west. On the north side of this ridge, you can see rocky cliffs. These cliffs look down into a bowl-shaped valley called a corrie. This corrie is known as Coire Choinnich.

Sgùrr Choinnich is special because it is a Munro. A Munro is a Scottish mountain that is over 3,000 feet (914.4 meters) high. Sgùrr Choinnich is almost 1,000 meters tall, making it a big challenge for hikers.
The name "Sgùrr Choinnich" comes from the Gaelic language. It can mean "Rocky peak of the moss." It might also mean "Peak of Kenneth," from the name Coinneach.

When you reach the top of Sgùrr Choinnich, you get amazing views. To the north, you can see the famous Coulin and Torridon mountains. These are known for their rugged beauty.

How to Climb Sgùrr Choinnich
Many people like to climb Sgùrr Choinnich along with its neighbor. This mountain is called Sgùrr a' Chaorachain. It is located to the east of Sgùrr Choinnich. These two mountains are connected by a high mountain pass. This pass is called a bealach. It is found at the top of Coire Choinnich.
Starting Your Climb
The most common way to start climbing Sgùrr Choinnich is from the north. You begin near a small village called Craig. This village is in Glen Carron.
From Craig, a good path leads you up. It follows the side of a stream called Allt a' Chonais burn. Once you cross this stream, you have a few choices.
Reaching the Summit
One popular way to go is up the north ridge of Sgùrr a' Chaorachain. After you reach the top of Sgùrr a' Chaorachain, you can keep going west. This path will lead you straight to the summit of Sgùrr Choinnich.
Another option is to approach from the east. A clear ridge takes you to the bealach known as Bealach Bhearnais. Here, you will find a track used by deer stalkers. This track comes from the valley of Allt a' Chonais. This means you can even do a circular walk.
From Bealach Bhearnais, you can also choose to climb other nearby peaks. These include Beinn Tharsuinn and Sgùrr nan Feartaig.
