Sharifuddin Pirzada (شریف الدین پیرزادہ سيد) (born June 12, 1923 – died June 2, 2017) was a very important Pakistani lawyer and politician. He was known as a Barrister, which is a special type of lawyer. He worked as a top lawyer in the highest court of Pakistan, the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He also served as the Foreign Minister and the Attorney General of Pakistan, which is the chief legal advisor to the government.
Early Life and Family
Sharifuddin Pirzada was born on June 12, 1923. His birthplace was the city of Burhanpur, which is now in Madhya Pradesh, India. His parents were Mir Niazi Pirzada and Fatima. His father was also a lawyer and worked for the government in India at that time.
Important Roles
Sharifuddin Pirzada held many important jobs in Pakistan's government:
- He was the Foreign Minister from 1966 to 1968. This means he helped manage Pakistan's relationships with other countries.
- He served as the Attorney General of Pakistan twice, from 1968 to 1971 and again from 1977 to 1984. In this role, he was the main legal advisor to the government.
- He also worked as the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) from 1985 to 1988. The OIC is a group of countries that work together on issues important to the Muslim world.
Awards and Recognition
Sharifuddin Pirzada was given a very high award in Pakistan.
- He received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1998. This award is one of the highest honors given by the Government of Pakistan for great service to the country.
Later Life
Sharifuddin Pirzada passed away on June 2, 2017, when he was 93 years old.
