Sharni Norder (born Sharni Layton on January 6, 1988) is a famous Australian sportsperson. She had amazing careers in both netball and Australian rules football. Sharni played for six different netball clubs over 15 years. She won two championships with the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
Sharni also played 46 games for the Australia national netball team, called the Diamonds. She won two gold medals at the Netball World Cup and one gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. In 2017, she was even the captain of the Diamonds.
After her netball career with the Collingwood Magpies in 2018, Sharni switched to Australian rules football. She played for Collingwood's AFL Women's team. As a footballer, she was named an All-Australian in 2020. She also helped Collingwood win the VFLW premiership in 2019 and was the team's vice-captain in 2021.

Sharni Norder's Netball Journey
Playing for Clubs in Australia
Sharni Layton started her netball journey in 2004 with the Melbourne Kestrels. In 2007, she got a special scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport. She became captain there in 2009.
In 2008, Sharni joined the Melbourne Vixens in the ANZ Championship. The next year, she moved to the Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2010. She won the Young Player of the Year award in the ANZ Championship that year. Sharni helped the Thunderbirds win the championship in 2010.
She became the Thunderbirds' vice-captain in 2011. In 2012, she was co-captain. Her time with the Thunderbirds ended with a great performance in the 2013 Grand Final. Adelaide won the game 50–48 against the Queensland Firebirds.
On July 29, 2013, Sharni signed with the New South Wales Swifts. She became very popular there and joined the team's leadership group.
In 2017, Sharni joined the Collingwood Magpies in the new Suncorp Super Netball league. After the 2017 season, she took a break because she was very tired. Sharni came back to play for the Magpies in the 2018 season.
On July 18, 2018, Sharni announced she would stop playing netball after that season. She played over 140 domestic games in her career. She won two championships with the Adelaide Thunderbirds. She was also named Player of the Year in 2016.
Even after retiring, Sharni played netball again in 2020 for Peninsula Waves.
Playing for Australia (The Diamonds)
Sharni was part of the Australian Under 21 team from 2006 to 2009. She won a gold medal at the 2009 World Youth Netball Championships. She was also the vice-captain of that team.
Later in 2009, Sharni played her first game for the Australian Netball Diamonds. This was at the World Netball Championships in Singapore, where her team won a gold medal. They also won the Holden Netball Test Series, becoming the number one team in the world.
After her great performance in the Grand Final, Sharni was chosen for the Australian Netball Diamonds squad. She played against New Zealand in the 2013 Constellation Cup and against Malawi later in 2013.
In 2014, Sharni was part of the Australian National Netball Team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. They beat the New Zealand National Netball Team to win the gold medal. This was Australia's first netball gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 12 years!
Sharni finished her career with 46 games for the national team. She won the International Player of the Year award twice. She was also the captain of the Diamonds in 2017.
Sharni Norder's Football Career
Shortly after stopping netball, Sharni Norder signed to play Australian rules football with the Collingwood Football Club. She was part of Collingwood's VFL Women's team that won the championship in 2019.
Sharni played for Collingwood from 2019 to 2021. She became one of the best ruck players in the league. In 2020, she was even chosen for the 2020 AFL Women's All-Australian team. She announced she was retiring from football after Collingwood's season ended in 2021.
Personal Life
Sharni Layton married her partner, Luke Norder, in January 2021. She also wrote a book about her life called No Apologies. It was released in February 2021.
