In 1994, he was chosen as a First Team All-IFA player.

Starting in the NFL
Shawn King was chosen by the Carolina Panthers in the 1995 NFL Draft. This means a team picked him to play for them. He was picked in the second round. In his first year, 1995, Shawn played in 13 games. The next year, 1996, he played in all 16 games.
However, Shawn faced some challenges. He was suspended from playing for a period. This happened because he did not follow league rules. He missed the first six games of the 1997 season. He only played in 9 games that year. After another rule violation, he was suspended for the entire 1998 season.
Playing for the Colts
Before the 1999 season, Shawn King signed a new contract. He joined the Indianapolis Colts. He started 8 of the first 9 games for the Colts. But he was suspended again for four games. This was due to showing up late for a team meeting.
The Colts later decided to let Shawn go. He was then suspended by the league for 12 months. This meant he missed the entire 2000 season. In January 2001, he was allowed to play again. However, Shawn decided to retire from the NFL.
Life After the NFL
After four years away from professional football, Shawn King returned. He signed with the Tampa Bay Storm in the AFL. This was for the 2004 AFL season. After playing in the AFL, Shawn King left professional football for good.
