Shawn Springs, born on March 11, 1975, is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons. Springs played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. There, he earned special honors as an All-American. The Seattle Seahawks chose him third overall in the 1997 NFL draft. He played for the Seahawks, Washington Redskins, and New England Patriots. Springs was also chosen for the 1999 Pro Bowl in 1998.

Early Life and High School
Shawn Springs was born in Williamsburg, Virginia. He grew up mostly in Silver Spring, Maryland. His father, Ron Springs, was also an NFL player. Ron Springs played as a running back for Ohio State University. He later played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys. Shawn was a star player in high school football at Springbrook High School. He played both running back and cornerback. He was chosen as an all-state player.
Professional Football Career
Shawn Springs had a long and successful career in the NFL. He played for three different teams over 13 seasons.
Playing for the Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks picked Shawn Springs third overall in the 1997 NFL draft. This made him one of the highest-drafted cornerbacks ever. In his first year, he started 10 games and made one interception. In his second season, 1998, Springs was chosen for the 1999 Pro Bowl. He started all 16 games that year. He made 76 tackles, seven interceptions, and scored two defensive touchdowns. He continued to start every game for the Seahawks in 1999 and 2000. During these years, he made five interceptions in 1999 and two in 2000.
Playing for the Washington Redskins
On March 4, 2004, Springs joined the Washington Redskins as a free agent. In his first year with Washington, he led the team in interceptions with five. He also led the team in sacks with six. This made him the first cornerback in NFL history to lead his team in both sacks and interceptions. In 2005, Springs played most of the season with a leg injury. He finished that year with one interception and 50 tackles in 15 games. In 2007, Springs had 62 tackles and four interceptions. These four interceptions came in the last four games of the season. He helped the Redskins reach the playoffs that year. The Redskins released Springs on February 27, 2009.
Playing for the New England Patriots
Springs signed a three-year contract with the New England Patriots on March 11, 2009. He started four of the first eight games for the Patriots in the 2009 season. He missed some games in November due to a knee injury. He returned to play the final four games of the season. He also played in the Patriots' playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. He ended the season with one interception, 40 tackles, and four passes defended. The Patriots released Springs on May 18, 2010.

Shawn Springs is the son of former NFL running back Ron Springs. Shawn has four children. Their names are Skyler, Samari, Shawn II, and Sedona.
