Shedeur Deion Sanders (born February 7, 2002) is an American professional football quarterback. He plays for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Jackson State Tigers and Colorado Buffaloes. He won several big awards, including the 2021 Jerry Rice Award, the 2022 Deacon Jones Trophy, and the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The Browns picked him in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. Shedeur is the son of famous football player and coach Deion Sanders. His older brother, Shilo Sanders, also plays in the NFL.

Early Life and High School Football
Shedeur Sanders was born on February 7, 2002, in Tyler, Texas. He has four siblings. He went to Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas. His father was the offensive coordinator for the school's football team. In his final year of high school, Shedeur threw for 3,702 yards and 43 touchdowns. He was considered a top player and first planned to play college football at Florida Atlantic. However, he later decided to play for Jackson State after his father became their head coach.
College Football Career
Playing for Jackson State
Shedeur started at Jackson State in January 2021. He became the starting quarterback for the 2021 fall season. That year, he threw for 3,231 yards and 30 touchdowns. He was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Freshman of the Year. He also won the Jerry Rice Award, which goes to the best freshman in his division of college football. He was the first player from a historically black college or university (HBCU) to win this award. Shedeur also signed deals with big brands like Gatorade and Nike.
In his second year, Shedeur had an amazing season. He completed 70.6% of his passes for 3,732 yards and 40 touchdowns. He was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year. He also won the Deacon Jones Trophy as the best HBCU player in the country. After the 2022 season, he decided to transfer to another college.
Moving to Colorado
Shedeur transferred to the University of Colorado after his father, Deion Sanders, became the head coach there. He immediately became Colorado's starting quarterback.
In his first game for Colorado, Shedeur set a school record. He threw for 510 yards and four touchdowns. This helped his team win against a highly ranked opponent. He continued to play well, leading the Buffaloes to a strong start. In 2023, he finished the season with 3,230 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. He also had four rushing touchdowns.
In 2024, Shedeur led the Buffaloes to a 9–4 record. They also played in the Alamo Bowl. He had an impressive season, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns. He earned the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award. He also won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which goes to the best senior quarterback in college football. In April 2025, Colorado announced that Shedeur's jersey number would be retired. This is a big honor for a college player.

On April 26, 2025, Shedeur Sanders was chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. He was the 144th player picked overall. Many people thought he would be drafted earlier. On May 19, 2025, he signed a four-year contract with the Browns. The deal is worth $4.6 million.
Personal Life
Shedeur Sanders released a hip-hop song called "Perfect Timing" in May 2024.
His older brother, Shilo Sanders, also played college football with him at Jackson State and Colorado. Shilo was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2025 NFL draft.
