Shell Knob's Story
Shell Knob is nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. It started way back in 1835. A couple named Henry and Elizabeth Yoachum Schell built a trading post by the White River.
The community was named after them. However, when the post office opened in 1872, the "c" was left out of "Schell," and it became "Shell Knob." The Schells moved away in 1846.
A big change happened in 1959. The Table Rock Dam was finished, and the area filled up with water. This created the large and popular Table Rock Lake.
Shell Knob's Location and Nature
You can find Shell Knob on Missouri Route 39. It sits right on the north shore of Table Rock Lake. This makes it a very active place for lake fun and vacations.
The community is a popular resort area. Many people come here to enjoy the lake.
The total area of Shell Knob is about 33.43 square kilometers (12.91 square miles). Most of this area is land, about 24.55 square kilometers (9.48 square miles). The rest is water from the lake, which is about 8.88 square kilometers (3.43 square miles).
