History of Shelly

Shelly was officially planned and mapped out in 1896. It was named after an early settler, John Shely. The spelling "Shelly" was chosen to make sure people didn't confuse it with Shely Township, which already existed. A post office has been open in Shelly since 1896, helping people send and receive mail.
