Shenipsit Lake, also known as Snipsic Lake (say it like shin-ip-SIT), is a natural lake in Tolland County, Connecticut. Many people call it "The Snip" for short! This lake is super important because it stores water for people to use. It covers about 522.8 acres, which is a really big area!

The lake touches the towns of Ellington, Tolland, and the Rockville part of Vernon, Connecticut. It's also where the Hockanum River begins its journey.

A Look Back in Time

Long ago, Native American trails passed right by Shenipsit Lake. These trails were like ancient highways. Early European settlers also used these same paths. They traveled from the eastern areas towards the Connecticut River. Even today, parts of these old trails are still there near the lake. They are unpaved, showing their long history.
