Shericka Jackson, born on July 16, 1994, is a super-fast sprinter from Jamaica. She competes in exciting races like the 60-meter, 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter sprints. She is one of the fastest women ever in the 100m and 200m races!

Shericka first became known as a 400-meter runner. She won bronze medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the World Championships in 2015 and 2019. She also helped her team win silver in the 4x400m relay at the 2016 Olympics. At the World Championships, she won gold and bronze in the 4x400m relays in 2015 and 2019. In 2019, she also grabbed a gold medal in the 4x100m relay.

In 2021, Shericka started focusing on shorter sprints. She won a bronze medal in the 100m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She also helped her team win gold in the 4x100m relay and bronze in the 4x400m relay. That year, she became one of the few women to run incredibly fast times in the 100m, 200m, and 400m races.

At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Shericka won a silver medal in the 100m. She then won a gold medal in the 200m, setting a new national record for Jamaica! She also earned a silver medal with her team in the 4x100m relay. She was the best 200m runner in the 2022 Diamond League series.

Shericka Jackson is the first athlete in World Championship history to win medals in the 100m, 200m, and 400m races. This also includes the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. She is also only the second athlete ever, after Marita Koch, to win medals in all these events at either the World Championships or the Olympic Games.

Early Life and Start in Sports

Shericka Jackson was born in Jamaica. She loved track and field from a young age. She trained at Steer Town Academy and Vere Technical schools. When she was just 14 years old, she proudly represented Jamaica at the CARIFTA Games in 2008.

Career Highlights

Shericka Jackson has been winning gold medals since 2008. She started with age-group wins at the CARIFTA Games and the CACAC Junior Championships. She reached the finals of the 200m race at the 2010 Youth Olympics. She also placed third at the 2011 World Youth Championships and competed in the 2012 World Junior Championships.

Her big breakthrough in the 400m race came in 2015 when she was 21. She started running under 51 seconds in June and then under 50 seconds in August.

2021: A Shift to Shorter Sprints

In 2021, Shericka decided to try the 100m and 200m sprints. Her coach, Stephen Francis, helped her make this change. At the Jamaica Olympic Trials in Kingston, she set new personal bests of 10.77 seconds in the 100m and 21.82 seconds in the 200m.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she won a bronze medal in the 100m. Her time was 10.76 seconds, just behind her Jamaican teammates Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah. The Jamaican women took all three medals in that race, which was amazing! In the 200m, she had a small mistake and slowed down too early, missing out on advancing to the next round.

2022: World Championship Success

Shericka continued to shine in the shorter sprints in 2022. She won three medals at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. At the Jamaican trials, she won both the 100m and 200m races. Her 200m time of 21.55 seconds made her the third-fastest woman ever in that event at the time.

At the World Championships, she won a silver medal in the 100m with a personal best of 10.73 seconds. Then, she won the gold medal in the 200m! She set a new championship and national record of 21.45 seconds, making her the second-fastest woman of all time in the 200m. This 200m title made her the first athlete in World Championship history to win medals in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. In the 4x100m relay, she helped her team win a silver medal. Later that year, she improved her 100m personal best to 10.71 seconds at the Monaco Diamond League event.

2023: More Records and Titles

Shericka's amazing performance continued into 2023. She won three more medals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. She won another gold medal in the 200m with a time of 21.41 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in history! She also won a silver medal in the 100m, finishing behind Sha'Carri Richardson. With her teammates, she earned another silver medal in the 4x100m relay.

Before the World Championships, Shericka set a new 100m personal best of 10.65 seconds at the Jamaican trials. This moved her up to fifth place on the all-time list for women. She also won the Jamaican women's 200m title. Shericka ended her season by becoming the Diamond League champion in both the 100m and 200m races at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene.

2024: Challenges and Withdrawals

On May 19, 2024, Shericka won the 200m race at the Marrakesh Diamond League. However, she placed fifth in the 200m at the Bislett Games, which ended her two-year winning streak in that event. She still won the Jamaican Championship titles for both the 100m and 200m. Shericka was chosen for the Jamaican team for the 2024 Paris Olympics but had to withdraw due to an injury.
