Exploring Sherrard's Location
Sherrard is found in the northeastern part of Mercer County. It is about 20 miles northeast of Aledo, which is the main town of the county. The village is also about 16 miles south of Rock Island.
Land and Water Features
The village covers a total area of about 1.16 square miles. Most of this area, about 0.93 square miles, is land. The rest, about 0.23 square miles (or 20%), is water. Sherrard sits on a flat-topped ridge. Water from this ridge flows north into Mill Creek, which then joins the Rock River. Water also flows south into Camp Creek, which connects to the Edwards River. The village also includes two lakes, Frye Lake and Karl Lake. These lakes are reservoirs built in a valley that leads to Camp Creek.
