Shigeki Morimoto is a super talented video game designer and programmer from Japan. He was born on October 1, 1967. He works at a company called Game Freak. You might know Game Freak because they create the amazing Pokémon games! Shigeki Morimoto has been a big part of almost every main Pokémon game since the very first ones, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.
He was a programmer for those early games. He also created the famous battle system that Pokémon games use, where your Pokémon fight against others. And guess what? He's also the person who created the mysterious and powerful Pokémon, Mew! Later on, he became a director for some of the newer Pokémon games.

Shigeki Morimoto's Work in Games
Shigeki Morimoto has worked on many different video games. His journey in game development started in 1993.
Early Games and Pokémon Beginnings
In 1993, he helped with the map design for a game called Mario & Wario. Then, in 1996, he became a programmer and helped design the monsters for the very first Pokémon games: Pokémon Red, Pokémon Green, and Pokémon Blue. He continued to work on other games like Bushi Seiryūden: Futari no Yūsha and Pocket Monsters Stadium, where he designed characters. In 1998, he was a programmer for Pokémon Yellow.
Developing the Pokémon Series
Shigeki Morimoto played a big role in the next Pokémon games. For Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver (1999), and Pokémon Crystal (2000), he was a programmer and helped with game and monster design. He also advised on Pokémon Stadium 2.
In 2002, he became the battle director for Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire. This meant he was in charge of how the Pokémon battles worked. He also helped design the game and the Pokémon themselves. He continued this role for Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen in 2004.
Directing and Leading Battle Design
Shigeki Morimoto took on even bigger roles as the Pokémon series grew. In 2004, he was a director for Pokémon Emerald. He also advised on games like Pokémon Colosseum (2003) and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (2005).
For Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl (2006), he was the battle director. He then directed Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver in 2009.
He became the lead battle designer for Pokémon Black and Pokémon White (2010), Pokémon X and Pokémon Y (2013), and Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon (2016). He continued to work on battle design for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon in 2017.
Recent Contributions
More recently, in 2019, he was a supervisor for Little Town Hero. He also continued his role as lead battle designer for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. His latest known work is on Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet (2022), where he helped with battle logic planning.
