Shigeyoshi Suzuki (鈴木 重義, Suzuki Shigeyoshi, October 13, 1902 – December 20, 1971) was a famous Japanese football player. He also became a manager for the Japan national team.

Who Was Shigeyoshi Suzuki?
Shigeyoshi Suzuki was born in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, on October 13, 1902. He loved football from a young age. He became a key figure in Japanese football history.
Early Football Days
Suzuki helped start the football team at Waseda University High School in 1921. Later, in 1924, he also helped create the football team at Waseda University. He played alongside many future national team players there. Some of these players included Haruo Arima and Ko Takamoro.
Playing for Japan
In August 1927, Suzuki was chosen to play for the Japan national team. He played in the 1927 Far Eastern Championship Games in Shanghai. On August 27, he made his first appearance as captain against the Republic of China team.
Just two days later, on August 29, he played against the Philippines. In this game, Suzuki scored a goal! Japan won this match. It was Japan's very first victory in an international "A" match. Suzuki played two games for Japan in 1927 and scored one goal.
Coaching the National Team
Suzuki later became a manager for the Japan national team. In 1930, he led the team at the 1930 Far Eastern Championship Games in Tokyo. His team won the championship!
He managed the Japan team again in 1936 for the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. At these Olympics, Japan achieved an amazing comeback victory against Sweden. This was Japan's first victory ever in the Olympics for football. This historic win became known as the "Miracle of Berlin" in Japan. In 2016, this special team was honored and chosen for the Japan Football Hall of Fame.
Later Life and Legacy
After World War II, Shigeyoshi Suzuki worked in the insurance business. He passed away on December 20, 1971, when he was 69 years old. In 2007, he was also chosen to be part of the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This shows how important he was to Japanese football.
