Shiner is a small city in Lavaca County, Texas, United States. It was named after Henry B. Shiner. He gave 250 acres (about 1 square kilometer) of land for a railroad to be built.
In 2020, about 2,127 people lived in Shiner. Many of the first people to settle here came from Germany and the Czech Republic.

History of Shiner, Texas
How Shiner Began
The story of Shiner began in 1885. A post office called Half Moon opened at a trading spot. This was close to where Shiner is today.
In 1887, a man named Henry B. Shiner helped the area grow. He donated a large piece of land for a new railroad. This railroad, the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway, went through his land instead of Half Moon.
The town quickly grew around this new train line. At first, people called the town "New Half Moon." But in 1888, the name was changed to Shiner. The town officially became a city in 1890.
Culture and Community
Many families from Germany and the Czech Republic moved to Shiner. They became the main groups of people living there. This created a strong Czech community. Their culture still plays a big part in the town today.
Ranching, which is raising cattle, was also very important in the town's early days.
Famous Local Businesses
Shiner is home to the Spoetzl Brewery. This is the oldest independent brewery in all of Texas. A brewery is a place where beer is made. They are famous for making Shiner Bock, a type of dark beer. You can find Shiner Bock in all 50 states!
Another important company in Shiner is Kaspar Companies. It is one of the oldest businesses in America that has been running continuously. Kaspar Companies owns several other businesses. These include Ranch Hand Truck Accessories and Texas Precious Metals.
