Shridhar Chillal was an amazing man from Pune, India. He became famous for having the longest fingernails on one hand. His nails grew to an incredible total length of 909.6 centimeters (about 358 inches). That's longer than a small car! His longest nail was his thumbnail, which reached 197.8 centimeters (about 77 inches). Mr. Chillal stopped cutting his nails way back in 1952.

Shridhar Chillal was born on January 29, 1937. He decided to let his nails grow very long. This decision made him a world record holder. He was very proud of his unique achievement.

The Challenges of Long Nails

Even though he was proud, living with such long nails was not easy. The heavy weight of his nails caused problems for his left hand. His fingers became a bit changed in shape. He also found it hard to use his left hand normally. Mr. Chillal even said that the huge weight of his nails damaged nerves in his left arm. This nerve damage caused him to lose some hearing in his left ear.

His Nails on Display

Mr. Chillal's incredible nails were shown in movies and on television. People around the world were amazed by them.

On July 11, 2018, Mr. Chillal finally had his fingernails cut. This special event happened at the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum in New York City. A special tool was used to cut the nails. A technician wore protective gear during this "nail clipping ceremony."

Today, three of his famous fingernails are on display. You can see them at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
