Shrikant Jichkar (Marathi : श्रीकांत जिचकार) (born September 14, 1954 – died June 2, 2004) was an amazing Indian public servant and politician. He was known for his incredible love of learning. He earned 20 university degrees! He also became the youngest MLA (a state lawmaker) in India at just 26 years old.

Life and Education
Shrikant Jichkar was born into a Marathi family. He had a passion for studying many different subjects.
His Many Degrees
Shrikant Jichkar started his education in medicine, earning degrees like MBBS and MD from Nagpur. But he didn't stop there! He went on to study many other fields.
He earned degrees in:
- Law (Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws in international law)
- Business (Master of Business Administration, Doctor of Business Management)
- Journalism (Bachelor of Journalism)
- Literature (Doctor of Literature in Sanskrit)
He also earned ten Masters of Arts degrees in subjects like:
- Public administration
- Sociology
- Economics
- Sanskrit
- History
- English literature
- Philosophy
- Political science
- Ancient Indian history, culture & archaeology
- Psychology
Most of his degrees were earned with top marks, and he won many gold medals for his excellent performance. Between 1973 and 1990, he took 42 university exams, studying hard every summer and winter.
Early Career and Politics
In 1978, Shrikant Jichkar passed the tough Indian Civil Service exam. This exam helps people become government officials. He was chosen for the Indian Police Service. However, he later decided to try for a different part of the civil service, the Indian Administrative Services, in 1980.
Just four months after joining the Administrative Service, he decided to try something new again. He resigned to run in his first election. He was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, becoming the youngest MLA in the country at 26. Later, he became a minister, holding many important roles in the government at one time.
Political Journey
Shrikant Jichkar served in several important political positions:
- He was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1985.
- He was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1986 to 1992.
- He served as a Minister of State for the Government of Maharashtra.
- He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha, which is one of the two houses of India's Parliament, from 1992 to 1998.
He ran for national elections in 1998 and 2004 but did not win.
His Passing
Shrikant Jichkar sadly passed away on June 2, 2004. He died in a car accident near Kondhali, about 60 kilometers from Nagpur.
Helping Others
Shrikant Jichkar was also very dedicated to helping his community.
Sāndipani School
In 1993, he started the Sāndipani School in Nagpur. He did this through the Shrikant Jichkar Foundation. This school helps provide education to children.
Supporting Children
He also worked to improve the education and health of children who were not as fortunate. He did this through his trust. After he passed away, his children have continued his good work through the Zero Gravity Foundation.
