Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu (born June 11, 1993 – died May 29, 2022), known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was a famous Indian rapper, singer, and songwriter. He mostly created music and acted in Punjabi movies. Many people thought he was one of the best Punjabi artists of his time. He also helped open doors for other Punjabi artists to become popular in mainstream music.
In 2020, The Guardian newspaper listed Moose Wala as one of 50 rising artists to watch. He was also the first Punjabi and Indian singer to perform at the Wireless Festival. He won four awards at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards.
Moose Wala became very popular with his song "So High". In 2018, he released his first album, PBX 1. This album reached number 66 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. His songs "47" and "Mera Na" also made it onto the UK Singles Chart.
He was born in Moosa, Punjab. He started his career in 2016 by writing the song "License" for Ninja. In 2017, he began singing himself with the duet "G Wagon" alongside Gurlez Akhtar. After this, he worked with Brown Boyz on many songs. His songs often topped the UK Asian Music chart. His song "Bambiha Bole" was one of the top five on the Global YouTube music chart.
In 2021, he released Moosetape. Songs from this album became popular worldwide. They appeared on charts like the Billboard Global 200, Billboard Global Excl. US, Canadian Hot 100, UK Asian, and New Zealand Hot charts. He had the most number-one songs on the Billboard India Songs chart.
In 2021, Moose Wala joined the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He ran in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election for Mansa, but he did not win.
Sadly, Moose Wala passed away on May 29, 2022. His first song released after his death, "SYL", came out on June 23, 2022.

His Early Life and Education
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu was born in the village of Moosa. This village is in the Mansa district of Punjab, India. He came from a Jat Sikh family. His father was Balkaur Singh and his mother was Charan Kaur.
Moose Wala studied at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. He earned a degree in electrical engineering in 2016. He really looked up to the rapper Tupac Shakur. He started listening to hip-hop music when he was in sixth grade. Harvinder Bittu in Ludhiana taught him music. He chose "Sidhu Moose Wala" as his stage name to honor his home village of Moosa. The name means "Sidhu from Moosa" in Punjabi.
After finishing college, Moose Wala moved to Brampton, Ontario, Canada. He went there as an international student. While living in Canada, he studied at Humber College.
His Amazing Music Career
Moose Wala released his first song "G Wagon" in 2017. He was living in Brampton at the time. Later that year, he became very famous with the song "So High". This was a gangster rap song with music producer Byg Byrd. The song helped him win the 2017 Best Lyricist award at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards. After this success, he joined Brown Boys Records with Sunny Malton and Byg Byrd.
First Songs and Breakthrough
He started performing live shows in India in 2018. He also performed many shows in Canada. He continued to be successful with songs like "Issa Jatt," "It's All About You," and "Just Listen." In May 2018, he released the song "Tochan." After that came "Famous," which entered the UK Asian Top 40 Chart.
At the 2018 PTC Punjabi Music Awards, he was nominated for the Best New Age Sensation award for "Issa Jatt." In August 2018, he released his first song for a movie soundtrack, "Dollar." This song was for the film Dakuaan Da Munda.
After making several successful songs with music publisher Humble Music, he started releasing songs on his own in 2018. His first independent song was "Warning Shots."

In October 2018, he released his first album, PBX 1, with T-Series. This album was mostly pop music with some hip-hop sounds. The album appeared on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. It also won the Best Album Award at the 2019 Brit Asia TV Music Awards. After this, he released most of his songs under his own music label.
In February 2019, Moose Wala released "Legend" under his own record label. This song won the Brit Asia TV Kuflink Best Track of the Year Award that year. In the same month, he released "Chosen" and "Outlaw." In April, he released "East Side Flow," followed by "Mafia Style" with Aman Hayer. In August, he worked with Bohemia on "Same Beef." In September, he released two songs for movie soundtracks: "Dogar" for Teri Meri Jodi and "Jatti Jeone Morh Wargi," featuring Sonam Bajwa, for Ardab Mutiyaran. In October, he released "47" with British rappers Mist and Stefflon Don. This song made it into the top 20 on the UK Singles Chart. It also appeared on the New Zealand top 40 singles chart.
In 2019, Spotify included him in its list of the most popular artists in Punjab.
In January 2020, Moose Wala was featured with Nseeb on Prem Dhillon's song "Old Skool." After that came "Tibeyan Da Putt," which topped the iTunes charts. It was also ranked number 8 on the Apple Music charts in India. His second studio album, Snitches Get Stitches, was released under his own label in May 2020. That same month, he released the song "Dear Mama" for his mother's birthday. In June 2020, he worked with Amrit Maan on "Bambiha Bole." The music video for this song was watched over ten million times in just 24 hours. The song reached number 1 in India. It also entered the top 50 in Canada and New Zealand on the Apple Music charts. It topped the UK Asian chart and was in the top 5 of the Global YouTube charts. On August 31, 2020, he officially started his record label, 5911 Records. In May 2021, Moose Wala released his third studio album, Moosetape. This album appeared on the New Zealand Top 40 Albums chart by Recorded Music NZ. Songs from the album appeared on many international charts. These included the Billboard Global 200, Canadian Hot 100, and New Zealand Hot Singles charts. On September 12, 2021, he performed at the Wireless Festival in London with Mist. Moose Wala was the first Indian singer to perform at this festival.
In April 2022, Moose Wala released the EP No Name. This EP featured AR Paisley, Mr. Capone-E, and Sunny Malton. It started at number 73 on Billboard's Canadian Albums chart. His songs "The Last Ride," "Levels," "Never Fold," and "295" entered the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 chart. "The Last Ride" reached number 26, "Levels" reached number 32, and "Never Fold" reached number 97. Three of his songs also appeared on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart. "The Last Ride" reached number 103, "295" reached number 73, and "Levels" reached number 195. In June 2022, his song "SYL" (which refers to the Satluj Yamuna link canal) was released after his passing. It reached number 27 on the Canadian Hot 100, number 81 in Australia, number 3 in India, and number 200 on the Global Excl. US chart.

His Acting Roles
Moose Wala made his first appearance in Punjabi cinema with the film Yes I Am Student. This movie was made under his own production company, Jatt Life Studios. The film was directed by Tarnvir Singh Jagpal and written by Gill Raunta. In 2019, Moose Wala also appeared in Teri Meri Jodi. In June 2020, he announced another film called Gunah. On August 22, 2021, he released a short preview of his upcoming movie, Moosa Jatt. This movie starred Sweetaj Brar and was directed by Tru Makers. On August 24, 2021, he announced his new film Jattan Da Munda Gaun Lagya. This movie was directed by Amberdeep Singh and was planned for release on March 18, 2022.
Joining Politics
In 2021, Sidhu Moose Wala decided to join politics. He became a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He ran in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election for the Mansa area. However, he was not successful in winning the election.
His Personal Life
Moose Wala lived in his home village of Moosa. Many of his fans would visit him there. He was very close to his grandmother. He kept his hair long because she asked him to, which is very important in Sikhism. His father could not keep his hair long due to an accident.
Remembering Sidhu Moose Wala
Sidhu Moose Wala passed away on May 29, 2022. He was in his car in Jawaharke village of Mansa when he was shot. His funeral was held in his home village on May 31. His last ceremonies took place on his farmland.
His Legacy and Tributes
- On June 3, 2022, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that a cancer hospital and a sports stadium would be built to remember Moose Wala.
- On June 8, 2022, the Brampton, Canada city council decided to have a giant mural painted by a local artist. They also planned to plant a tree in his honor. The mural was completed in June 2023.
- On June 5, 2022, two murals were created in California, USA as a tribute to Moose Wala.
- On July 25, 2022, Punjabi Virsa, a literary group based in Pakistan, honored Moose Wala with the Waris Shah International Award.
