Sidney is a city located in Fremont County, Iowa, in the United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Fremont County. In 2020, about 1,070 people lived there. Sidney is known for being one of the smallest county seats in Iowa.

A Look at Sidney's History
Sidney was first planned out in 1851. It was originally going to be called Dayton. However, the people surveying the land were staying with the Milton Richards family. Mrs. Richards suggested they name the new city after her hometown, Sidney, Ohio. And so, the name Sidney stuck!
The Famous Sidney Iowa Championship Rodeo
Sidney is home to a very special event: the Sidney Iowa Championship Rodeo. This rodeo has been run by American Legion Post No. 128 since 1924. It claims to be the world's largest outdoor rodeo that has happened every year without stopping. It is also one of the biggest rodeos in the world.
About 38,000 people visit Sidney each year to see the rodeo. It's a huge event that takes place in late July or early August. People come from all over to watch cowboys and cowgirls compete in exciting rodeo events.
