How Sierra Gorda is Governed
Sierra Gorda is a commune, which is a local area managed by a municipal council. This council helps run the town. The leader of the council is called an alcalde (mayor). People vote for the alcalde every four years. The current alcalde, from 2021 to 2024, is José Guerrero Venegas.
Sierra Gorda is also part of larger areas for voting. It helps choose people to represent it in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. These are like the two main parts of Chile's government where laws are made.
A Fun Story: The James Bond Incident
In 2008, a famous James Bond movie called Quantum of Solace was being filmed in the village of Sierra Gorda. The mayor at the time, Carlos López Vega, drove his car onto the movie set! He did this because the film crew had not asked his permission to film in his town. It was quite a surprise for everyone!
