Sigtuna Municipality (called Sigtuna kommun in Swedish) is a special area in Stockholm County, located in east-central Sweden. It's like a local government area. The main town, or "seat," of the municipality is Märsta. Märsta is about 37 kilometers (23 miles) north of Stockholm, which is the capital city of Sweden.
Sigtuna Municipality is part of a larger area known as Metropolitan Stockholm. This municipality was created in 1971. It got its name from the very old city of Sigtuna. However, the main administrative center was placed in the bigger, more modern town of Märsta.
The municipality has three main towns. These are Märsta with about 23,000 people, Sigtuna with about 8,000 people, and Rosersberg with about 1,400 people. Märsta is where the local government offices are. Sigtuna is famous for its long and important history, making it a popular place for tourists to visit.
