Raisio (pronounced RYE-see-oh) is a town in Finland. It is located in the Southwest Finland region. Raisio is just north of Turku, which is the main city of the region. About 25,000 people live in Raisio. It is the 40th largest municipality in Finland by population. It is also the third largest in the Southwest Finland region.
The town of Raisio covers a land area of about 48.76 km2 (18.83 sq mi). It has about 5 kilometres (3 mi) of coastline. This coastline is along the Bay of Raisio in the south.
The coat of arms of Raisio has a special meaning. It is inspired by Martin of Tours. He was a saint who is connected to Raisio's old stone church. Olof Eriksson designed the coat of arms. It was approved on April 23, 1954.

History of Raisio
The first known written record of Raisio dates back to 1292. There is also strong proof that people lived here during the Stone Age. However, Raisio did not officially become a town until 1974. For a long time, it was mostly a farming area.
Things changed in the late 20th century. The company Raisio Group became very successful. This helped Raisio grow into an important industrial center. The town's population grew a lot, increasing eleven times during the 20th century.
What Does the Name Raisio Mean?
The name Raisio first belonged to the Raisionjoki river. The river's oldest name was Raisajoki. This name means "marsh/bog river." You can find a similar word, raisnik, in the Estonian language, which means "mire."
Another idea about the name Raisio comes from the word raiskio. This word means a forest that was damaged by poor management. The landscape of Raisio changed a lot after the Ice Age. This was due to siltation and post-glacial uplift.
Raisio's Economy
Raisio has grown a lot because of its good location. It has strong transport links and is close to Turku. The main industries in Raisio are services, food production, and chemical production.
The biggest employer in Raisio is the Raisio Group. This company makes food, animal feed, and health products. Raisio is also home to the Mylly shopping center. This is one of the largest shopping centers in Scandinavia. Finland's third IKEA store is also located in Raisio.

Raisio has many interesting cultural places. The Friisilä Handicraft Centre lets you see traditional Finnish handicrafts. The Harkko Cultural Centre is in the town center. It has an art museum, an archaeology museum, and a theater.
You can also visit the town library. The Ulpukka swimming centre is a great place for swimming. Raisio is also home to Vaisaaren yläkoulu. This is Finland's largest secondary school.
The Raisio railway station is on the Turku-Uusikaupunki railway line. The Finnish Heritage Agency has called it an important cultural site.
