Simon Mark Monjack (born March 9, 1970 – died May 23, 2010) was an English screenwriter, film director, and producer. He was also known as the husband of American actress Brittany Murphy.
Early Life
Simon Monjack was born in Hillingdon, England. He grew up in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire. He went to Juniper Hill School and later the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe. When he was 16, his father passed away. His mother, Linda, works as a hypnotherapist.
Career in Film
Monjack worked as a director, producer, and writer. In 2000, he directed, produced, and wrote a film called Two Days, Nine Lives. He also received a story credit for the 2006 movie Factory Girl. This film was about Andy Warhol's friend, Edie Sedgwick. In 2007, it was reported that Monjack planned to direct a movie based on a book called The White Hotel. His wife, Brittany Murphy, was set to star in it.
Personal Life
Marriages
Simon Monjack married Simone Bienne in Las Vegas in November 2001. They later divorced in 2006. That same year, he met actress Brittany Murphy. In April 2007, they got married in a private ceremony at their home in Los Angeles. They did not announce their engagement before the wedding. The couple rarely appeared in public together before they were married. Brittany Murphy passed away on December 20, 2009.
Death
Simon Monjack was found dead on May 23, 2010, at his home in Hollywood. He was found by Brittany Murphy's mother, Sharon. The Los Angeles County coroner's office investigated his death. The report stated that Monjack died from acute pneumonia and severe anaemia. These causes were similar to those found in his wife's death five months earlier. He was buried next to Brittany Murphy at Forest Lawn cemetery.
