Early Career and Challenges
Simon Moser has played for the Switzerland men's national ice hockey team in many big tournaments. He was part of the team at the 2011 IIHF World Championship, 2012 IIHF World Championship, and 2013 IIHF World Championship.
During the 2012 IIHF World Championship, Simon had a serious injury. He fell on the ice and tore his ACL, which is a ligament in his knee. This meant he needed surgery and could not play for the rest of the season. He even had to turn down an invitation to a training camp with the Chicago Blackhawks because of his injury.
After his recovery, Simon returned to play 35 games in the 2012–13 NLA season. He scored 10 goals and made 11 assists, totaling 21 points for his team, the SCL Tigers.
At the end of the 2012–13 season, the SCL Tigers team moved down to a lower league called the National League B. Simon then became a "free agent," which means he could choose which team he wanted to play for next.
Playing in the NHL
On June 7, 2013, Simon agreed to a two-year contract with SC Bern. However, before joining Bern, he decided to try out for the Nashville Predators in the NHL. He did very well at their training camp.
Because he impressed the Predators, Simon chose to use a special part of his contract with Bern. This allowed him to leave Bern if an NHL team offered him a contract. So, on September 30, 2013, he signed a one-year contract with Nashville.
Simon first played for the Milwaukee Admirals, which is a team connected to the Predators in a league called the AHL. But on February 1, 2014, he was called up to play for the Nashville Predators. He made his first NHL appearance against the St. Louis Blues.
During the 2013-14 NHL season, Simon played in 6 NHL games. He scored his very first NHL goal on March 1, 2014, in a game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Returning to Switzerland
After his one-year contract with the Predators ended, Simon decided not to sign another contract with them. Instead, he chose to go back to Switzerland. On July 31, 2014, he signed a one-year contract to play for SC Bern again.
While playing for SC Bern in the 2014-15 NLA season, Simon signed an even better three-year contract on January 13, 2015. This new contract also had an option that would let him return to the NHL if he wanted to.
Captain of SC Bern
Before the 2017-18 NL season began, Simon Moser was given a big honor. He was named the captain of SC Bern, taking over from Martin Plüss. Being a captain means he is a leader for his team both on and off the ice.
