Simpson is a small community in Fell Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is an area that is not officially a town or city, but it is recognized for census purposes. Simpson is located just north of the city of Carbondale along Pennsylvania Route 171. In 2010, about 1,275 people lived there.

History of Simpson
Simpson was first settled in 1818. It became an organized community in 1845. The area was named after Clarence D. Simpson. He was an important person in the coal mining business.
Early Life and Work
In the beginning, people in Simpson worked in trapping, tanning animal hides, and cutting down trees for lumber. Later, coal mining became very important. Working on the railroad was also a big job. Many coal miners came from countries like Russia, Poland, and Slovakia. They came to Simpson for work and a new life.
Local Businesses and Community
Simpson had its own businesses. One was Fell Brewing Co., which made different kinds of beer. Another important company was General Textile Mills, also known as Gentex. This company was formed when Klotz Throwing Company and Empire Silk Mill joined together.
As more families moved to Simpson for these jobs, new churches and schools were built. The people who lived there were proud and worked hard.
Sports Achievements
Simpson also had a famous sports moment. In 1946, the Fell High School basketball team won the state championship! This was a huge achievement for the community. The last class graduated from Fell High School in 1975. After that, the school joined with others to form the Carbondale Area District.
Where is Simpson?
Simpson is located in the northeastern part of Lackawanna County. It is in the southern part of Fell Township. The city of Carbondale is right next to it, to the south.
Main Roads and Nearby Places
Pennsylvania Route 171 is the main street in Simpson. If you go north on Route 171, you will reach Forest City in about 5 miles (8 kilometers). If you go south, you will get to the center of Carbondale in about 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers). Simpson is also about 17 miles (27 kilometers) northeast of Scranton.
Rivers and Land
Simpson covers about 2.3 square kilometers (0.89 square miles) of land. Only a very small part of this area, about 0.015 square kilometers (0.0058 square miles), is water. The Lackawanna River flows right through the middle of Simpson. This river then flows southwest and joins the Susquehanna River in Pittston.
