Sint Anthonis is a village in the southern Netherlands. It is located in the province of North Brabant. People who live there sometimes call it Sint Tunnis.
Until recently, Sint Anthonis was also a separate municipality. A municipality is like a local government area. In 2022, Sint Anthonis joined with several other towns. These towns included Boxmeer, Cuijk, Grave, and Mill en Sint Hubert. They all became part of a new, larger municipality called Land van Cuijk.

History of Sint Anthonis
Sint Anthonis has a long history. The town was first mentioned in a document from 1312. Back then, it was known by a different name: Oelbroec.
How the Name Changed
A church dedicated to St. Anthony The Abbot was finished in 1477. After the church was built, people started calling the town "the Parish of St. Anthony in Oelbroec". By the year 1570, the old name Oelbroec was no longer used. The town became known simply as Sint Anthonis.
Local Government Changes
For a long time, Sint Anthonis was part of the lordship of Boxmeer. A lordship was an area ruled by a lord. After the French ruled the area, Sint Anthonis became separate from Boxmeer.
It then joined with the village of Ledeacker. Together, they formed a municipality called "Sint Anthonis en Ledeacker". In 1821, another village, Oploo, joined them. The municipality was then called "Oploo, Sint Anthonis en Ledeacker".
In 1913, this municipality had 1,769 people living there. Most of these people lived in the village of Sint Anthonis itself.
Recent Municipality Mergers
On January 1, 1994, the municipality of Wanroij joined with "Oploo, Sint Anthonis en Ledeacker". This created a new, larger municipality named Sint Anthonis. A few months later, on July 4, 1994, the spelling of the village name was officially changed from St. Anthonis to Sint Anthonis.
