Sir James O'Connell (born 10 January 1786 – died 28 July 1872) was an important Irish man who held the special title of baronet. He was also the younger brother of the famous Irish leader, Daniel O'Connell.

Life in Ireland
James O'Connell made his home in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, in the early 1800s. He rented large areas of land from the Herbert family, who lived at Muckross House.
Becoming a Baronet
On 29 October 1869, James O'Connell received a special honor. He was given the title of "Baronet of Lakeview and of Ballybeggan." This meant he became Sir James O'Connell, 1st Baronet. A baronet is a title of honor that is passed down through families.
Building Lakeview House
In 1870, Sir James O'Connell built a beautiful new home called "Lakeview House." It was built to replace an older house from 1740. Lakeview House is located in a place called Maulagh. Today, Lakeview House is still standing and is owned by the family members who are descendants of Sir James O'Connell.
His Large Estate
Sir James owned a very large amount of land. In the 1870s, his land covered more than 18,000 acres. This huge estate included lands in different parts of County Kerry.
His Family
Sir James O'Connell was the son of Morgan O'Connell and Catherine O'Mullane. His father, Morgan, owned a general store. Both of his parents came from a Roman Catholic family.
Famous Brother
James O'Connell was the younger brother of Daniel O'Connell, who was a very important political leader in Ireland. He was also the nephew of a soldier named Lieutenant-General Daniel Charles, Count O'Connell.
His Own Family
Sir James was married to Jane O'Donoghue. Together, they had five children. Their oldest son, Maurice James O'Connell, later became the 2nd Baronet after his father passed away.
