Making Music: Sir Jinx's Journey

Early Days in the 1980s

Anthony "Sir Jinx" Wheaton began his career in the mid-1980s. He formed a hip hop duo called Stereo Crew with Ice Cube. They signed with Epic Records. In 1986, they released their first song, "She's a Skag." Sir Jinx's cousin, Dr. Dre, helped produce this song.

Because their first song did not sell well, they left Epic Records. Later, they teamed up with another rapper, Kid Disaster. They changed their group's name to C.I.A.. In 1987, the trio released their song "My Posse." They also appeared on the cover of the album N.W.A. and the Posse.

Around this time, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre started focusing on forming a new group called N.W.A. This led to C.I.A. breaking up. Sir Jinx then produced the first music collection for rapper Dazzie Dee in 1989.

Success in the 1990s

When Ice Cube left N.W.A, he started his own music label, Lench Mob Records. Sir Jinx and other artists joined him. Sir Jinx worked with Ice Cube and others to produce Ice Cube's first solo album, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. They also made the follow-up music collection, Kill at Will. Both were released in 1990. These projects were very successful, selling millions of copies.

In 1991, Sir Jinx produced many songs for other artists. He worked on Yo-Yo's album Make Way for the Motherlode. He also helped with WC and the Maad Circle's album Ain't a **** Thang Changed. Sir Jinx also produced songs on Ice Cube's album Death Certificate. This included the famous song "No Vaseline." He also made remixes for rock bands like Rage Against the Machine.

After 1993, Sir Jinx stopped working closely with Ice Cube. They decided to go in different creative directions. Sir Jinx then started producing music for R&B singers. These included CeCe Peniston and Gerald Levert. Later in the 1990s, he returned to hip hop. He produced music for Xzibit's album 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz in 1998.

New Projects in the 2000s

In the 2000s, Sir Jinx continued to produce music. In 2003, he worked on a song for comedian Eddie Griffin's movie soundtrack, Dysfunktional Family. He also produced a song for the group Westside Connection on their album Terrorist Threats.

Sir Jinx also mentioned in an interview that he would help his cousin, Dr. Dre, with his album Detox. This was a big deal because it was their first time working on an album together.

In 2011, Sir Jinx formed a group called General Population. They released an album called Sir Jinx Presents General Population: Rime Scene. The next year, he produced an entire project for an artist named Tri Star.
