Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sixty-Six Books was a special collection of short plays shown at the Bush Theatre in London during 2011. This event celebrated two things: the theatre opening in a new location and the 400th anniversary of the King James Version of the Bible. The name "Sixty-Six Books" comes from the 66 books found in the Protestant Bible.

The show ran from October 10 to October 29, 2011. There were even special 24-hour shows on two Saturdays, October 15 and 29. A huge number of people were involved, with 130 actors taking part. Some well-known actors like Miranda Raison, Ralf Little, Billy Bragg, and Rafe Spall were part of the cast.

About the Plays

The idea behind Sixty-Six Books was to have a different writer create a short play for each of the 66 books of the Protestant Bible. This meant there was a play for Genesis, one for Exodus, and so on, all the way to Revelation.

Writers and Actors Involved

Many talented writers and actors contributed to this unique project. For example, the play for the Book of Genesis was called "Godblog" and was written by Jeanette Winterson, with Catherine Tate acting in it. For the Book of Ruth, Stella Duffy wrote "The Book of Ruth (and Naomi)," featuring Kate Duchêne and Nikki Amuka-Bird.

The play for the Book of Daniel, called "Oliver Lewis," was written by Jack Thorne and starred Miranda Raison and Dominic Mafham. Even the musician Billy Bragg wrote a play for the Book of Luke, titled "Do Unto Others." This wide range of creative people made the event very diverse and interesting.
