Skeld is a special place made up of two villages in Shetland, Scotland. The name Skeld comes from an old language and means "Shield" or "shelter," which sounds like a cozy place to live! It's located on the south side of the West Mainland area of Shetland.
About Skeld
Skeld is actually two villages that are about a mile apart. The main village is called Easter Skeld, and the other part, further west, is known as Wester Skeld.
There's a housing area in Skeld called Grindybrecks. You'll also find a school located on a hill, helping young people in the area learn and grow.

Vagaland, the Poet
A famous poet from the 20th century, known as Vagaland, had strong ties to Skeld. His father was from this village. Vagaland's real name was Thomas Alexander Robertson, and he was born nearby in Westerwick. Even though he moved away to Walls when he was a small child, he always loved and felt connected to this part of Shetland. He wrote many poems that captured the spirit of the islands.
Erraid Davies, the Swimmer
Another notable person from Skeld is Erraid Davies. She is a talented swimmer who lives right in Skeld. Erraid even won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which is a huge achievement for an athlete!
