Skottie Young moved to Chicago from Tennessee in 2000. That's when he started working for Marvel Comics. His first projects included drawing the Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan mini-series. This was part of the Marvel Mangaverse. He also drew for the Human Torch and the New X-Men. He even wrote one issue for the New X-Men series.

Early Marvel Projects

Young illustrated a six-issue New Warriors mini-series. It started in June 2005 and was written by Zeb Wells. This series showed the team as stars of a reality TV show. It also led into the big Civil War storyline.

Cover Art and Popular Series

Skottie Young has drawn covers for many popular comic books. These include Cable & Deadpool, Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Iron Man. He is also well-known for his cute "Baby Variant" covers. These covers feature baby versions of Marvel superheroes.

He received great praise for his work on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This comic series was published by Marvel Comics. It became a New York Times Best Seller and won an Eisner Award. He and his partner Eric Shanower adapted five more Oz books.

Rocket Raccoon and I Hate Fairyland

Young wrote and drew a solo comic series for Rocket Raccoon. This series for Marvel Comics began in July 2014. It came out before the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Young wanted the comic to feel like old cartoons. He said it would have a "Looney Tunes" feel. He enjoyed playing with that style in a superhero universe.

From October 2015 to July 2018, Young wrote and drew I Hate Fairyland. This was his own comic book series. It was published by Image Comics. He created the story and characters himself.

Recent Work and Future Plans

In 2018, Marvel relaunched many of its titles with "Fresh Start." Skottie Young became the writer for the Deadpool comic series. In June 2019, Marvel Comics released a book called The Marvel Art Of Skottie Young. This book showed off his amazing artwork.

In August 2021, Young started a newsletter on Substack. He announced that I Hate Fairyland would be coming back! New issues of the series are now being published by Image Comics. Skottie Young writes them, and Brett Parson draws them. There are also extra side stories. These stories are drawn by other artists.
