Slavica Đukić Dejanović (born 4 July 1951) is a well-known Serbian politician. She served as the Minister of Education from 2023 to 2025. She has been a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia for a long time.

Before becoming Minister of Education, she held many important roles. These included Minister of Family Care, President of the National Assembly of Serbia, and even acting President of Serbia. She also served as Minister of Health and Minister without portfolio.

Slavica Đukić Dejanović made history as the second woman to be the President of the National Assembly. She was the first woman to hold this position in independent Serbia. She was also the first and only woman to be the head of state of Serbia since it became independent in 2006.

Early Life and Education

Slavica Đukić Dejanović was born on July 4, 1951. Her birthplace was Rača, a town near Kragujevac. She completed her elementary and high school education in Rača.

She later attended the University of Belgrade School of Medicine. There, she earned her master's degree in 1983. She then completed her Ph.D. in 1986.

Professional Career

Slavica Đukić Dejanović began her professional journey in medicine. She started working at the University of Kragujevac Medical School in 1982. She moved up from being an assistant to a full professor by 1996.

From 1995 to 2001, she was the Director of the Clinical-Hospital Center in Kragujevac. Even after leaving that management role, she continued to work as a doctor. She also served as the director of the Clinic for Psychiatry in Kragujevac. Additionally, she was the vice dean of the Medical School.

Political Journey

Slavica Đukić Dejanović started her political career early. She joined the League of Communists of Yugoslavia when she was 18. She became a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia in 1990.

She held various leadership positions within the Socialist Party. She was a member of the Main Board and the executive committee. She also served as the chairwoman of the Kragujevac Regional Committee. She was elected vice-president of the party multiple times.

Roles in Government

Slavica Đukić Dejanović served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the National Assembly of Serbia. She also served as a Federal Deputy for two terms.

From October 2000 to January 2001, she was the Minister for Family Care. On June 25, 2008, she was elected the President of the National Assembly of Serbia. This was a very important role.

When President Boris Tadić resigned in 2012, Slavica Đukić Dejanović became the acting President of Serbia. She held this position from April 5, 2012, to May 31, 2012.

She then served as Minister of Health from 2012 to 2014. Later, she was the Minister without portfolio from 2016 to 2020. In this role, she focused on population policy.

In June 2023, she was chosen to become the Minister of Education. She served in this role until April 2025.

Views and Beliefs

Slavica Đukić Dejanović believes that public officials should be open about their finances. She has stated that people should know about their ministers' properties.

She has shown support for the LGBT community. She has also participated in pride parades, including the Belgrade Pride in 2016. She supports a woman's right to make choices about her body.

Slavica Đukić Dejanović speaks English and Russian, in addition to Serbian.
