Slavica Đukić Dejanović (Славица Ђукић Дејановић; born 4 July 1951) is a Serbian politician. She currently serves as the Minister of Education since 2023. This means she helps lead and manage the education system in Serbia.
She has been a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia for a long time. She has held many important jobs in the government. These include being the Minister of Family Care, the President of the National Assembly of Serbia (like the speaker of parliament) from 2008 to 2012, and even the acting president of Serbia for a short time. She also served as the Minister of Health and a Minister without portfolio in charge of population policy.
Slavica Đukić Dejanović was the second woman to be the President of the National Assembly. She was also the first woman to be the acting head of state of Serbia since the country became independent in 2006.

Early Life and Education
Slavica Đukić Dejanović was born on 4 July 1951. She was born in a town called Rača, which is near Kragujevac. She went to elementary and high school in Rača.
She later studied at the University of Belgrade School of Medicine. She earned her master's degree in 1983 and her Ph.D. (doctorate) in 1986.
Her Career as a Doctor
Slavica Đukić Dejanović started working at the University of Kragujevac Medical School in 1982. She began as an assistant and later became a full professor in 1996.
From 1995 to 2001, she was the Director of the Clinical-Hospital Center in Kragujevac. She continued to work as a doctor even after leaving that management role. She is also the director of the Clinic for Psychiatry in Kragujevac. She was also the vice-dean of the Medical School and the vice-president of the Association of Psychiatrists of Serbia.
Her Political Journey
While working as a doctor, Slavica Đukić Dejanović also built a political career. She joined the League of Communists of Yugoslavia when she was 18 years old.
She became a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia in 1990. She held many important roles within the party. She was elected as the vice-president of the SPS in 1996 and again in 2002 and 2006.
She served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the National Assembly of Serbia for two terms. She was also a Federal Deputy for two terms. From October 2000 to January 2001, she was the Minister for Family Care in the government.
Important Roles She Held
On 25 June 2008, Slavica Đukić Dejanović was elected the President of the National Assembly of Serbia. This is a very important role, similar to the speaker of a parliament.
When President Boris Tadić resigned in April 2012, Slavica Đukić Dejanović became the Acting President of Serbia. She held this role until May 2012.
She also served as the Minister of Health from 2012 to 2014. From 2016 to 2020, she was a Minister without portfolio. This means she was a minister without a specific department, focusing on demography and population policy.
In June 2023, she was chosen to become the Minister of Education.
Political Views
Slavica Đukić Dejanović has shown support for the LGBT community. She has even taken part in the Belgrade Pride parade in 2016. This shows her support for equality and acceptance.

Besides her native Serbian, Slavica Đukić Dejanović also speaks English and Russian.
