Slow Cow is a special kind of drink called a relaxation drink. People sometimes call it an "anti-energy" drink. It's made in Quebec, Canada, by a company called Slow Cow Drink Inc. This drink was created to help people feel calmer and "slow down." It also playfully copies the look of Red Bull, a very popular energy drink.
Slow Cow first came out in Quebec in December 2008. The company planned to sell it in other parts of Canada, and in countries like France, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, the United States, Russia, Hong Kong, Italy, Iceland, China, and the Czech Republic.
How Slow Cow Started
A person named Lino Fleury developed Slow Cow in Quebec. He noticed that there were many energy drinks available. But he saw that there were no drinks to help people relax when they felt stressed.
Fleury explained that energy drinks often have caffeine. Caffeine can sometimes make people feel more anxious, not less. So, starting in 2006, Fleury and his team worked on creating a relaxation drink. They used mostly natural ingredients. These ingredients were chosen to help calm a person without making them feel sleepy.
The Look and a Legal Mix-Up
When Slow Cow was first sold in December 2008, its packaging looked a lot like Red Bull. The can was a similar size and shape to the famous energy drink. Also, the logo showed two cows relaxing. This was a fun contrast to the two bulls fighting on the Red Bull logo.
After Slow Cow launched, the company that makes Red Bull, called Red Bull GmbH, sent a formal letter to Slow Cow Drink Inc. They said that Slow Cow's packaging was too similar to Red Bull's. Lino Fleury agreed that the packaging was similar. However, he said his lawyers were confident they would win the case.
