Smithland is a small city located in Woodbury County, Iowa, in the United States. It's part of the larger Sioux City area, which includes parts of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. In 2020, about 181 people lived there.

History of Smithland
Smithland is one of the oldest towns in Woodbury County. It was settled a long time ago. In 1857, some disagreements and conflicts happened between the early settlers and Native American groups in the area. These events were part of a larger period of tension that led to the Spirit Lake Massacre later that year.
Geography of Smithland
Smithland is located at coordinates 42.229078 degrees North and -95.931875 degrees West.
The town is found near the Little Sioux River. This river flows through a special area called the Loess Hills. The Loess Hills are unique landforms made of wind-blown soil. The river then continues towards the flat, low-lying land near the Missouri River.
The United States Census Bureau says that Smithland covers a total area of about 0.83 square kilometers (0.32 square miles). All of this area is land, with no water.
