Smoothrock Lake is a large lake located in Northern Ontario, Canada. It's found in a part of the Thunder Bay District that doesn't have its own local government. This lake is part of the James Bay drainage basin, which means all the water flowing into it eventually makes its way to James Bay. Smoothrock Lake is also located inside Wabakimi Provincial Park, a very large wilderness park.

Rivers Flowing In and Out

Smoothrock Lake has several rivers that flow into it and out of it. These rivers are like the lake's plumbing system!

Inflows (Rivers Flowing In)

Three main rivers bring water into Smoothrock Lake:

  • The Caribou River flows into Caribou Bay on the east side of the lake.
  • The Boiling Sand River and the Lookout River both enter the lake from the south.

Another smaller river, Berry Creek, also flows into the southwest part of the lake.

Outflows (Rivers Flowing Out)

The main river that carries water out of Smoothrock Lake is the Berg River. It starts from Outlet Bay in the north-central part of the lake. The Berg River then flows north and joins the Ogoki River.

There's also another river that flows out of the lake from Lonebreast Bay in the northeast. This unnamed river goes through a series of smaller lakes before also joining the Ogoki River further downstream. The Ogoki River eventually flows into the Albany River, which then empties into James Bay.
