She goes from Reno, Nevada, all the way to Liberty, New York. She hopes to find out more about her family's past.

Sophia Lynne DeMuth (Mama)

Sophia is Heidi's mother. She has a mental disability. Sophia is loving and gentle. She has a very small vocabulary. She loves Jujyfruit candies. However, she is very afraid of buses.

Bernadette "Bernie"

Bernadette is Heidi's next-door neighbor. She acts like a guardian or mother to Heidi. Bernadette has a condition called agoraphobia. This means she is afraid of crowded places or leaving her home.

Alexander "Zander"

Zander is an older boy in Heidi's apartment building. He might seem a bit rough. But Heidi enjoys his company. He tells wild and unbelievable stories. Heidi likes to figure out if they are true.

Elliot Hill

Elliot is Heidi's father. He is also Sophia's best friend. Elliot also has a mental disability. He calls Sophia "soof" because he cannot say "Sophia."

Thurman Hill

Thurman is Heidi's grandfather. He works at a place called Hilltop Home. This home is for people with mental disabilities. Heidi's mother lived there for a year.

Ruby Franklin

Ruby works at Hilltop Home. She helps Heidi a lot during her search. Ruby also takes care of Heidi for part of her trip. Her husband is Roy Franklin.

Roy Franklin

Roy is Ruby's husband. He is a local sheriff. He helps Heidi discover the truth about herself. He also helps her understand the meaning of the word "soof."

Diane DeMuth

Diane was Heidi's grandmother. Sadly, she died in a bus accident when Heidi was born. This accident is why Sophia is so scared of buses.

Alice Wilinsky

Georgia Sweet

Georgia is an 18-year-old girl. She is going to college. She joins Heidi for the next part of her bus journey. Unlike Alice, Georgia is truly interested in Heidi's story. Heidi feels comfortable sharing the real details with her.

Film Version
