Sofía Margarita Vergara Vergara (born July 10, 1972) is a famous Colombian and American actress and TV star. She has been nominated for many major awards, including five Primetime Emmy Awards and five Golden Globe Awards. She is also known for being one of the highest-paid actresses in the United States.
Vergara is best known for playing Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the popular ABC comedy show Modern Family from 2009 to 2020. More recently, she starred as Griselda Blanco in the Netflix series Griselda (2024). She first became famous in the late 1990s co-hosting TV shows for the Spanish-language network Univision.
She has appeared in many movies, including Chasing Papi (2003), Four Brothers (2005), and Madea Goes to Jail (2009). She also acted in films like New Year's Eve (2011), Chef (2014), and Hot Pursuit (2015). Vergara has also lent her voice to animated movies such as Happy Feet Two (2011) and Despicable Me 4 (2024).

Sofía Margarita Vergara Vergara was born on July 10, 1972, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She grew up in a Catholic family. Her mother, Margarita, was a homemaker, and her father, Julio, was a cattle rancher. Her family and friends gave her the nickname "Toti."
Vergara studied dentistry at the National University of Colombia for three years. However, she decided to leave college to follow her dreams in modeling and acting.
In 1998, after her older brother Rafael tragically died, Vergara moved to the United States for safety. She settled in Miami, Florida. Her cousin and adopted sister, Sandra Vergara, is also an actress in the U.S.

At 18, she married her high-school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez. They had a son, Manolo, in 1991, but they separated in 1993. Later, she was engaged to Nick Loeb, but they ended their engagement in 2014.
In 2015, Vergara married actor Joe Manganiello. They were married for seven years before separating in 2023. Their divorce was finalized in 2024.
In 2000, at age 28, Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She had surgery and treatment and made a full recovery. She now takes daily medication to manage her health.
In 2014, Vergara proudly became a United States citizen after passing her citizenship test with a perfect score.
