Sollefteå Municipality (which in Swedish is Sollefteå kommun) is a special type of local government area in Sweden. It is located in Västernorrland County. The main town and administrative center of the municipality is Sollefteå.
The area that is now Sollefteå Municipality has a long history. The name "Sollefteå" was first used way back in the 1200s. It came from a Latin phrase, De Solatum, which means "The Sunny Place." In 1602, the king allowed a market to be held here. This helped the area grow. The city of Sollefteå itself became a city in 1917. Later, in 1974, it joined with the towns and villages around it to form the larger municipality we know today. The municipality's official symbol, its coat of arms, shows a Black Grouse, which is a type of bird.
