Sotiris Moustakas (Greek: Σωτήρης Μουστάκας) was a famous Greek Cypriot actor. He was born on September 17, 1940, in Kato Platres, Limassol. His acting career lasted for more than 40 years. The 1960s to 1980s were his most successful times.

People called him an "Actor without a Label." This was because he could play many different kinds of roles. He acted in plays, films, and TV shows. He was great at all of them! Sotiris Moustakas became famous around the world in 1964. He played the role of "Mimithos" in the Oscar-winning movie Zorba the Greek. After that, he became a huge star in Greece. He was a big part of the "Golden Age" of Greek Cinema. This was a special time for movies in Greece from the 1950s to the 1970s.

His last movie was El Greco in 2007. He played the artist Titian in it. He also lent his voice to the Greek version of the 2007 Disney film Meet the Robinsons. This was his very last role. Sotiris Moustakas mostly played funny roles. Many people think he was one of the greatest comedian actors in Greek history.

Early Life

Sotiris Moustakas was born in Kato Platres, which is in the Limassol District of British Cyprus. He was the youngest of seven children in his family.

His Acting Career

Sotiris Moustakas was one of the most important funny actors in Greece and Cyprus. He studied acting at the National Theater of Greece. He was known for playing characters who were a bit unusual or nervous, but still very likable. In many of his movies, he played more than one role at the same time! He mostly acted in modern films and plays. But he also performed in some older, classic stories.

His last movie role was in the 2007 film El Greco. Before that, he mostly worked in the theater.

His Early Activities

When Sotiris Moustakas was young, he was involved in a movement in Cyprus. This movement, called EOKA, worked for the freedom of Greek Cypriots from British rule. He helped by carrying messages and writing political messages on walls. Because of this, the British arrested him. He spent seven months in jail.

His Passing

Sotiris Moustakas started feeling unwell during practice for a play. He was taken to a hospital in Athens. He passed away in the early morning of June 4, 2007. In the years before, he had been sick with cancer. At his funeral, a Greek flag was placed over his coffin.

His Family Life

Sotiris Moustakas was married to a Greek actress named Maria Bonellou. They had one daughter together, named Alexia. Maria, his wife, passed away on August 30, 2007, at 66 years old. This was about three months after Sotiris died.
