River's Journey
The South Branch of the Israel River begins high up on the western side of Mount Jefferson. This mountain is part of the Presidential Range in the White Mountains.
Flowing West
From its start, the river flows towards the west. It travels between two interesting ridges. To the south, there is the Ridge of the Caps. To the north, you can find the Castellated Ridge.
Turning Northwest
The river then turns towards the northwest. This happens when it reaches the Jefferson Notch Road. The South Branch flows right next to this road for a while.
