South China is a small village located in the town of China. It is found in Kennebec County, in the state of Maine, United States. This village is one of five villages that make up the larger town of China.

South China is nestled right on the edge of China Lake, which is where it gets its name. It's located between two bigger cities, Augusta and Waterville. If you travel an hour and a half, you can also reach Bangor or Portland. Major roads like Maine State Route 3 and U.S. Route 202 help connect South China to other places.

Summer Fun at Friends Camp

One popular spot is Friends Camp, a summer camp for kids. It is run by Quakers, a type of Christian group. This camp has been helping young people have fun and learn for over 50 years.

  • Rufus Jones (1863-1948) was a very important person. He was a writer, a magazine editor, and a deep thinker (philosopher). He was also a Quaker theologian (someone who studies religion) and a college professor. He is the only person to have given two Swarthmore Lectures, which are special talks given by Quakers.
