The South River is a river about 10.6 miles (17.1 kilometers) long. It flows through parts of eastern New Hampshire and western Maine in the United States. This river is a smaller stream, called a tributary, that flows into the Ossipee River. The Ossipee River then continues east to join the Saco River, and eventually, all that water reaches the big Atlantic Ocean.

The River's Journey

The South River starts its journey at the end of Province Lake. This lake is located in the town of Effingham, New Hampshire. From there, the river flows north, passing by the small village of Center Effingham.

After flowing north for a bit, the river makes a turn towards the east. It then crosses the border and enters the state of Maine, specifically the town of Parsonsfield, Maine. Once in Maine, the South River turns north again. It continues this path until it reaches and joins the larger Ossipee River.

Where the Water Goes

The South River is part of a larger water system. When its water joins the Ossipee River, it becomes part of that river's flow. The Ossipee River then flows into the Saco River.

The Saco River is a much bigger river that travels all the way to the coast. Finally, the water from the South River, after traveling through these other rivers, empties into the vast Atlantic Ocean. This shows how all rivers are connected, from small streams to the mighty ocean.
