What's in a Name?

South Uptown got its current name in 2018. Before that, it was known as the Calhoun Area Residents' Action Group (CARAG). The name change happened after a nearby lake, once called Lake Calhoun, was renamed Bde Maka Ska.

Why Did the Name Change?

The community decided to change the name to reflect the new name of the lake. They wanted a name that fit better with the area. People living in the neighborhood voted on new names. Some other ideas were "Bryant Park" and "Bryant Square."
