Lowry Hill East, often called the Wedge, is a cool neighborhood in southwest Minneapolis, Minnesota. It gets its nickname because it's shaped a bit like a triangle or a wedge! It's part of the larger Calhoun Isles community.
This neighborhood is bordered by Lyndale Avenue on the east, Hennepin Avenue on the west, and Lake Street to the south. These streets meet up north near Interstate 94, giving the area its unique shape.
Lowry Hill East started growing in the 1880s. This was when Thomas Lowry built a streetcar line that used horses to pull the cars. The middle part of the neighborhood is mostly homes and apartment buildings. Many of these buildings are quite old, from the early 1900s. Along the main border streets, you'll find lots of shops. There are bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee shops. Most of the homes here are rented, not owned.

In 2020, about 9,298 people lived in Lowry Hill East. Most residents were White (67.9%). Other groups included Black or African American (14.0%), Asian or Pacific Islander (8.4%), and Hispanic or Latino (5.1%). About 3.1% of residents identified as two or more races.
This neighborhood has more single people living alone than many other parts of Minneapolis. It also has a higher number of renters. Fewer families with children live here compared to other areas. The average household income was about $57,802.
Where is Lowry Hill East Located?
Lowry Hill East is part of Ward 10 in Minneapolis. A council member named Aisha Chughtai represents this area.
The neighborhood is surrounded by several other Minneapolis neighborhoods. To the northeast, you'll find Loring Park and Stevens Square. Whittier is to the east, and Lyndale is to the southeast.
To the south is South Uptown. To the southwest, you'll find East Bde Maka Ska. East Isles is to the west, and Lowry Hill is to the northwest.
Lowry Hill East is often considered part of a larger area called Uptown. This bigger Uptown area is south of Franklin Avenue and west of Nicollet Avenue. However, the official Uptown area is smaller. It's mainly focused around the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street.
