South Yemen was a country that existed for a short time. It sent athletes to compete in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. This was the only time South Yemen ever took part in the Olympic Games.
After these Games, South Yemen joined with North Yemen. They formed one country called Yemen. The new country of Yemen then started competing in the Olympics from the 1992 Summer Olympics onwards.

South Yemen sent a small team of athletes to the 1988 Summer Olympics. Five athletes competed in total. They took part in two different sports. These sports were athletics and boxing.

Athletics Events
Three athletes from South Yemen competed in athletics. They took part in running events. None of them won a medal or moved past the early rounds.
Men's Athletics
- Ehab Fuad Ahmed Nagi ran in the 100-meter race. He finished 8th in his heat and did not move on.
- Sahim Saleh Mehdi competed in the 200-meter race. He also finished 8th in his heat and did not advance.
- Farouk Ahmed Sayed ran in the 5000-meter race. He finished 18th in his heat and did not move forward.
Boxing Events
Two boxers from South Yemen competed in the Games. They faced tough opponents. Neither boxer won a medal.
Men's Boxing
- Mohamed Mahfood Sayed competed in the 51 kg weight class. He lost his first match by knockout.
- Ali Mohamed Jaffer competed in the 57 kg weight class. He also lost his first match by knockout.
Olympic Medals
South Yemen did not win any medals at the 1988 Summer Olympics. This was their only appearance as a separate country.
