The Southampton train station is located in Southampton (village), New York. It is part of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) system. You can find it on North Main Street, between Prospect Street and Willow Street. This station helps people travel along the Montauk Branch of the LIRR.

The Southampton station first opened its doors in February 1871. It was later taken down and rebuilt in 1902. This station is special because it's part of the village's North Main Street Historic District. This historic area has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986. For many years, there was also a building for freight (goods) across the tracks. Sadly, it was not kept up well and was finally taken down in 2006.

Station Design and Tracks

The Southampton station has one main platform where passengers get on and off trains. This platform is called a side platform. It is long enough for eight train cars. This platform is on the south side of the main track.

There are also two extra tracks, called siding tracks, on the north side of the main track. These tracks are often used for trains to wait or pass each other.

Train Directions and Destinations

Trains traveling on Track 1 can go in two main directions:

  • Westbound: Trains head towards Speonk, Jamaica, Long Island City, or Penn Station. The next stop before Southampton is Hampton Bays.
  • Eastbound: Trains head towards Montauk. The next stop after Southampton is Bridgehampton.
