The Sovereign Yidindji Government or Yidindji Tribal Nation is a group of Aboriginal Australian people. They claim to be a small, independent country, sometimes called a micronation. This group is part of a bigger idea called Australian Aboriginal Sovereignty. This idea means that Aboriginal people have the right to govern their own lands and people.
The Yidindji nation is led by Murrumu Walubara Yidindji. In 2014, members of the Yidindji nation decided they no longer wanted to be under Australian law. The land they claim is in Queensland. It stretches from south of Port Douglas, through Cairns, and across the Atherton Tablelands. It also goes about 80 kilometers out to sea. The main leader is Gudju Gudju Gimuybara. Murrumu is in charge of talking with other countries and managing trade.
About the Yidindji Government
The Yidindji government is a unique group of Aboriginal people. They are working to be recognized as a self-governing nation. They want to have their own rules and systems. This is part of their long history and culture.
Working with Other Countries
The Yidindji government hopes to make a formal agreement with the Commonwealth of Australia. This agreement is like a promise between two groups. It would help them work together. They are also trying to make official connections with other countries. This is called establishing diplomatic relations. They have reached out to countries like Russia and Venezuela.
Yidindji Driver Licenses
The Yidindji nation has its own system for driver licenses. They also issue their own registration plates for vehicles. This means their licenses and plates are different from those given by the Queensland government.
