(Crewed missions) |
The Soyuz MS-01 was a special space mission in 2016. It was supposed to launch in June 2016, but it took off from Kazakhstan on July 7, 2016. This mission carried three brave astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).
It was the 130th flight of a Soyuz spacecraft. What made it extra special was that it was the very first flight of the new and improved Soyuz MS version. The crew included a commander from Russia, a flight engineer from Japan, and another flight engineer from the United States.
The launch was delayed from June to July 2016 because of small problems with the control system. These issues could have made it hard for the spacecraft to connect to the ISS. Luckily, the spacecraft successfully docked with the ISS on July 9, 2016. After spending over 100 days in space, the crew returned safely to Earth on October 30, 2016.
