Spencer is a small village in Tioga County, New York, United States. It is part of the larger Binghamton area. The village and the surrounding town are named after Judge Ambrose Spencer.
In 2020, about 719 people lived in Spencer. The village is located in the middle of the Town of Spencer. It is also south of Ithaca.
History of Spencer Village
The first people settled in this area around 1794. At first, the settlement was called "Drake Settlement." Later, its name changed to "Spencer" when the town was officially formed. The village also took in a nearby community called "Milltown." In the past, people sometimes called the village "Pumpkin Hook."
Spencer was an important place for Tioga County for a while. It was the county seat from 1812 to 1821. This means it was where the county government was located.
The First Presbyterian Church in Spencer is a historic building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. This list includes places that are important to American history.

The village covers about 1.0 square mile (2.7 square kilometers) of land. Only a very small part of it, about 0.96%, is water.
The Catatonk Creek flows right past the village. This is a local stream that adds to the natural beauty of the area.
Two important roads meet in Spencer. These are New York State Route 34 and New York State Route 96. They help people travel to and from the village.
