Exploring Sphinx Glacier

Where is Sphinx Glacier Located?

Sphinx Glacier is found in Sublette County, Wyoming. It rests on the southern slope of Mount Woodrow Wilson. This mountain is very tall, reaching about 13,502 feet (4,115 meters) high. Just to the east of the glacier is another mountain. This one is called The Sphinx, and it stands at about 13,258 feet (4,041 meters).

What is the Continental Divide?

The glacier is also very close to something important called the Continental Divide. Imagine a line that runs through the mountains. On one side, all the rain and melted snow flow towards the Atlantic Ocean. On the other side, they flow towards the Pacific Ocean. Sphinx Glacier is right next to this special line. On the other side of the Continental Divide, you would find another glacier called Dinwoody Glacier.
